How to use Digitrak LT locator

The Vermeer DigiTrak LT Locating System is a powerful tool for horizontal directional drilling (HDD) operations. This guide will walk you through the basic steps for using the system effectively.


Step 1: Safety Precautions

Before operating the DigiTrak LT, it is important to review the safety precautions and warnings outlined in the Operator's Manual on page 5. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices when using this equipment.


Step 2: Power and Environmental Requirements

Ensure that you have access to a power source and that the environmental conditions are suitable for operating the DigiTrak LT. Refer to page 8 of the Operator's Manual for more information on power requirements and environmental considerations.


Step 3: Familiarize Yourself with the Equipment

The DigiTrak LT system consists of a handheld receiver, a transmitter, which is placed in the drill head, and a remote display. Review page 7 of the Operator's Manual for an introduction to each component of the system.


Step 4: Locating Instructions

To begin using the DigiTrak LT, it is important to understand basic principles such as depth or slant distance, locate points and locate line, geometry with respect to transmitter, and proper marking techniques. Step 5: Standard Locating Procedure

Once you have familiarized yourself with basic principles, you can begin using the standard locating procedure outlined in section 6 of the Operator's Manual. This procedure involves setting up your equipment, selecting a frequency channel, calibrating your receiver, locating your drill head, marking your locate points, and verifying your results.


Step 6: Plus/Minus Method

In addition to standard locating procedures, the DigiTrak LT also offers an alternate technique referred to as the plus/minus method. This method involves using a series of plus and minus signs to indicate the direction and distance of your locate points. Refer to page 38 of the Operator's Manual for more information on how to use this technique.
